Technology

Technology
Technology has good points and bad points. It can affect people in good ways and bad ways. Every person has used tecnology and it may have affected there lives in some way. (large or small ways) Using technology changes the way nature is. Which might not necessarily be a bad thing, but not a good thing either.
I'm going to guess that the majority of the people use cell phones. Those people who use the cell-phones could have added stress to themselves because it can bring their work into their personal lives. Cell-phones can take time away from your personal life and cause you to spend more time using it for work and added stress. Cell-phones can be a good thing because you can take less time to talk to someone or send someone something quicker.
Technology can affect some people in good ways while it affects others in bad ways. One example is one that was mentioned from a previous assignment. It talked about a chemical that was used to get rid of insects, but was unhealthy for the enviorment. When it was gotten rid of it was a good thing for one country because it helped with the enviorment, but bad for another country because when they got rid of the insect chemicals they had mosquitoes, disease, and death.
Technology can be a good thing. Technology can be a bad thing.

muscular dystrophy

Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular dystrophy causes the breaking down of muscle fibers which causes the muscles to be weak. Muscular Dystrophy also affects skeletal muscles. This disease could be found while at young ages or in the middle ages. This disease is more common in boys than girls. There are nine types of muscular dystrophy.
Science and Muscular Dystrophy
Many of the types of muscular dystrophy are formed because of mutations found in the genes. Muscular dystrophy is inherited at birth and only four of the types of genetic diseases have found the gene responsible for this disease. Treatments for muscular dystrophy are mainly targeted at lessing weakness, increasing mobilitity, and curing heart defects. So far there aren't any cures or drugs that have been effective. There is no way to prevent Muscular Dystrophy, but having a good nutrition doesn't hurt.
Language Arts and Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular Dystrophy has one meaning and is a noun and doesn't have any synonyms.
Math and muscular dystrophy
Mental retardation may affect some people with muscular dystrophy so in the end it could affect how some people learn math. Like other cases with mental retardation it requires a special and effective way of learning not only math but other subjects as well.
Reading and Muscular Dystrophy
The pre-fix in Dystrophy is Dystr meaning Pain.

achondroplasia

Anchondroplasia
Achondroplasia is a disorder of bone growth that causes the most common form of dwarfism. Some common and obvious signs of achondroplasia is shortened limbs, curved spine, and short stature. The average height of the adult with achondroplasia is approximately 4 feet. Achondroplasia only affects on 15 our of 15,000 births. Achondroplasia is an inherited disorder.

Understanding math with Anchondroplasia

Unlike the other disorders I have mentioned so far, disorder does not affect a persons learning ability. For the most part, nothing that involves understanding, not only math, but other subjects as well would be delayed due to this disorder. The one thing that might interact with their learning would be if they have issues ivolving their brain. One example would be if they had the building up of fluid near their brain.

Science relating to Ancondroplasia

Achondroplasia is caused by the mutation in the FGFR3 gene. The FGR3 gene is involved with the development of brain tissues and bone development. This gene is the cause for protein that helps with the develpment of bone. When this gene is overactive or underactive (does too much or does too little) then the skeletal development gets messed up along the way.

Some of the information used this far came from this website and could be looked at if wanting to look for more information.

History of achondroplasia

The gene that is the cause for this disorder was found in 1994 by a doctor named John Wasmuth. In ancient Egypt people with achondroplsia were used for subjects of art. Some of Egyptian gods seemed to appear to have anchonroplasia. Throughout history, many superstitions were associated with achondroplasia. It was thought that this disorder came to be due to a act from demons and as a punishment by the gods.
Example of the art people with achondroplasia ->
were used for.
Images and information were found at this site.
Achondroplsia relating to Language Arts
Achondroplasia means a skeletal disorder beginning before birth. Achondroplasia is very rarely used as a noun. It's synonyms are achondroplasty and chondrodystrophy. Achondroplasia has only one meaning unlike other words. (Ex. there, their, they're)
Achondroplasia relating to Reading
As I mentioned earlier when discussing learning with math, Achondroplasia doesn't affect a persons learning ability. A person who has this disorder would be able to read as well as a person who does not have achondroplasia. Only in rare cases including medical issues with the brain would have a chance of affecting a persons ability to read.

Saturn-Lindsay, Maricela, Diego

Saturn is the sixth planet away from the sun while the earth is the third away from the sun. Saturn is the second biggest planet while the earth is the fifth biggest planet. It takes about 30 earth years for Saturn to revolve around the sun. Saturns diameter is about nine times greater than the Earth's. Traces of ice are on Saturn and Earth has water, too. Earth is the densest of the planets while Saturn is the least dense.
Eaths atmosphere is Nitrogen and Oxegyn. Saturns atmosphere is Nitrogen and Helium.

http://nineplanets.org/saturn.html <-Good website to look for information.
Saturns interior consists of a rocky core, a liquid metallic hydrogen layer, and a molecular hydrogen layer. Saturn has thin rings while earth does not. Saturn is a giant gas planet with a delicate system of silky rings.

Geologic time

The definition of geologic time is the physical formation and developement of the earth. The geologic time scale is used to describe the timing of events that occured during the development of the earth. The overall act of the geological time scale is to map the history of the earth. The age of rock in years is called "absolute age".http://www.cotf.edu/ete/modules/msese/earthsysflr/ages.html That website explained things in an interesting way.

Autism

Autism

Science relates to Autism
Autism developes in the first three years of life and affects a persons' communication and social skills. No one is exactly sure what causes autism or how/if it can be cured. Autism is somehow connected to abnormal chemestry in the brain. Genetics absolutely has something to do with autism though there is no exact understanding how it involves genetics. For example autism seems to be a inherited genetic disorder. People with autism have difficulty reacting to anything social. They don't make friends, play like a normal child, or interact at all. Someone with autism seem have abnormally high or low response to the five senses. This includes, having high or low responses to pain. Some people with autism could have emotional problems which include: anxiety, agression, or irritability. There have been and will be vaccines that are created that try to help cure autism, but many have not worked. Autism could lead to other problems such as mental retardation and seizures. Autism can not be fully cured yet, but with certain types of therapy some of the symoptoms of autism can become less severe. Autism could affect basic learning: math, reading, etc.
The history of autism
The recongnitian of autism first appeared in 1911. The official study of autism though, hadn't begun until the 1960's. The type of "cures" that were tried on people with autism involved pain and punishment. The physical punishments were used to treat there inappropiate behaviors. Of course, these cures didn't work. During the 1980's, though, the treatments began to change to using behavior therapy instead. Before studies on autism became serious, parents were blamed for their childs behavior. People said a person who had good parenting wouldn't have those problems. This statement was more supported by the fact that it was likely a person could have more than one child with autism. Fortunately, though, as time progressed it was studies showed that autism was not caused by bad parenting, but by abnormal brain developement.
Language arts relates to Autism.
The word Autism comes from the word "Auto" meaning self. The term describes conditions in which a person is seperated from the social interactions.
Reading relates to Autism
Every person with autism is different. Some people with autism having reading abilities that come naturally to them, while for others it may be more difficult. For those who do have difficulty with reading need direct orders as to how what the reading means in order to understand it.
Understanding Math with Autism
The same situation with reading applies to math. Everyone with autism is different and for some it is harder to learn math, while for others, it comes naturally. Unfortunately, Autism tends to make everything a little more difficult when it comes to learning so math might not come as naturally to a person with autism as it would with a person who does not.

Down Syndrome

Down Syndrome

<-The normal person has this many chromosomes, someone with down syndrome would have an added chromosome.

Science and down syndrome
Chromosomes are made up of DNA that is tightly coiled. Chromosomes contains the genetic material that determines how a organism grows. A normal person has 23 pairs of chromosomes equaling 46 chromosomes in all. A person who has Down Syndrome has 47 chromosomes. Down syndrome varies from different people, but the overall common appearance of someone with down syndrome consists of different sized and abnormally shaped head, and the corner of the eyes may be rounded instead of pointed. The development of a person possessing down syndrome is often slower than normal. It is often that a down syndrom patient might never reach their adult height. Like their growth of their bodies, their mental growth, too, is slower than normal. They tend to have impulsive behavior, poor judgement, short attention spans, and overall slow learning. It is common for a person with down syndrome to have frustration and anger as their mental develpment grows and they realize their limitations. Down syndrome affect 1 in 800 people infants. The chances of a child having down syndrome icreases as the mother gets older.
History of Down Syndrome
Down syndrome was named after Dr.Down who dedicated alot of his life to the study of down syndrome. In 1958 another doctor named Dr.Lejeune the cause of down syndrome was an extra chromosome on the 21 pair. Not only did Dr.Down name go down in history but his wife, Mary, was too. She provided education, physical therapy, and other things to not only the Down Syndrome patients but other people as well. http://kidshealth.org/kid/health_problems/birth_defect/down_syndrome.html That website is helpful to explain down syndrome if you have a hard time understanding it.

Understanding math with down syndrome

People with Down Syndrome require special attention. Down syndrome patients usually face intellectual challenges. Studies show that for most people with down syndrome will not intellectually progress more than the average 6-8 year old child. Using real-world situations and language that is easy to understand are necessary when you try to teach a person with down syndrome.

Language arts and down syndrome

The synonym for down syndrome is trisomy 21. Down syndrome is a noun. There's only one meaning for down syndrome.

Reading and down syndrome.

Learning to read with down syndrome would be as difficult to do as it would be with math as I have mentioned earlier in the project. Understanding math is difficult and requries patience, time, and simplicity. In order to learn to read in the easiest way the down syndrome person would have to begin to learn how to pronounce words that they already know or understand. One example of those words would be a family member of theirs. In order to make reading as easy as possible for the patient small steps would have to be taken.
